Toby walks around the bay

"I adopted Toby last June and our first year together has been wonderful. We recently made the move from Minnesota to Florida and he loves his new home. He is extremely well behaved and acts more like a child than a dog. He insists on daily naps in our screen porch and loves morning walks around the bay. Thank you so much for saving Toby from the pound. I cannot imagine how anybody could have ever given him up."

Xavier has a friend to look up to

"Please tell Xavier's inmate that his first 24 hours are going quite well. He loves my sons (4 and 6 years old). He looks up to my older dog, kisses her, and lays with his feet in hers. She is not quite so sure what to think about all of that yet, but loves the extra walks. He is learning the rules (don't get up on the couch), and is learning the boundaries of his outside space. We took him to school behind the house last night. Boy, does he love to run! But he always kept an eye out for me and the other dog. When I shook the bag with training treats, he always came back. I put his crate in the boys' room. I put them down first, then closed the door. At bedtime for the rest of us, Xavier opened their door, jumped on their bed, kissed the sleeping boys, then jumped into his crate. Good, good dog. Many thanks to you for taking care of him and loving him before he could come home to us."

Puppy has quiet grace and dignity

"I brought Puppy home to meet my family on May 24, 2008. My husband, children, and grandchildren immediately fell in love with her. We knew that we would have her in our family forever. My 3 year old grandson has declared that Puppy is his dog. It is very funny watching my granddaughter try to hug her. Through it all, Puppy has remained serene and tolerant of all the little ones' attention. Our 6 year old grandsons realize that she is not a dog that will romp with them because of her hip dysplasia and arthritis and are very protective of her. We have had her on a weight loss program and she is much slimmer and more active. She has even decided to nap on the sofa! Our vet will evaluate her for her ability to have some pain meds at her next visit. We love this dear dog with all our heart and enjoy her quiet grace and dignity. Thank you so much for finding Puppy for us."

Jack builds endurance in Colorado

"We adopted a Whippet mix named Jack a little over a month ago. We thought we'd send an update and some pictures.

I take him for short runs (we're building up endurance for the eight-milers). He has a lot of energy and curiosity. Our building is home to many other dogs, and Jack has befriended a few of them. We also take him to nearby dog parks in Denver and let him play with the other dogs.

The description of Jack noted that he enjoyed playing with balls, and that's the understatement of the year. We purchased a red kong ball that Jack chases around our condo. We have wood floors, so the ball bounces a great deal and sometimes Jack slips. He has adjusted quickly to the environment, and now he skates across the floor on his paws and dribbles the ball, sometimes throwing it off the wall and back to himself. We hardly have to get involved.
We have found that Jack is a pretty tenacious chewer-- he demolished the Kong toy for "power chewers" in about 15 minutes and we had to take it away. He does well with nylon bones, though, and we keep an eye on our shoes.

On the whole, Jack is a very affectionate dog. He reciprocates any affection with abundant kisses. He is very well housetrained.

We recently took a short trip to St. Louis for a family reunion and found a doggy boarding house for Jack. The owners said that he was very well behaved. We watched Jack on the kennel's doggie camera, and he socialized well with the 30+ dogs that roamed the large facility. He also enjoyed their swimming pools and giant bubble machine.

Thanks for your help with the adoption. We'll send more updates in a bit!"

Ginger is the best dog ever!

"Hi, I just wanted to let you know that Ginger is doing so well. Her squirrel obsession has gotten much better. I have had Ginger now for 5 months and she is great. She loves to go to the dog park and play. She also loves to go on walks. She is the best dog ever! Thank You so much!"
